Sneak Peak: Dylan Hunter

Excerpt from Ruby Hood, A Twistedly True Tale

Ruby smiled, watching Lily scan the bleachers, searching for one thing—Dylan Hunter. There was clear chemistry between them, and her friend was definitely crushing. He had better be a nice guy, Ruby thought as she scanned the crowd to help. There he was. Just as she was about to tap Lily on the shoulder and point him out, she stopped. Was he staring at her? And not a friendly way?
Averting her eyes, Ruby turned her head away and waited. Surely, she’d been mistaken. Her mind wandered in a million different directions.
“There he is, Rue,” Lily whispered in her ear and waved at him. “He’s so cute. Thanks for the intro.”
“Let’s hope he’s a good dude,” was all Ruby could say before the official’s whistle sounded and the girls turned back to the game. Snuggling with her friend, Ruby couldn’t help but wonder was Dylan giving her a dirty look or was her imagination running wild?

Sunday Sneak Peek: Kayla Wolf

Over a span of nearly 8 years, Kayla Wolf has evolved from a senseless killer to a much more complex character, but she's always been a raving egomaniac, and probably always will be. My version of the big bad wolf or simply a misunderstood Lycan? I guess only time will tell. Enjoy a #sundaysneakpeek of Kayla Wolf's villain-ish personality.

UNEDITED excerpt from Ruby Hood, A Twistedly True Tale (Chapter 2)

“I said, ‘MORE spirit!” Kayla’s screech filled the room as she stalked, like a panther about to devour prey, around the room, critiquing the Homecoming signs, “What’s wrong with you?”
Lily and Ruby eyed one another. Kayla had gone from smug egomaniac to the spirit dictator in less than a half an hour. Then she stopped right next to Ruby and Lily.
“Well now, that’s more like it.” Kayla’s her lined dark lips curled into a satisfied smile. Bending down, she ripped Lily’s sign right out from under her, stood and shouted, “ATTENTION PEOPLE, OVER HERE! This is what a sign should look like! Lily will be around to help you in minute. Make yours like hers.”
Ruby stopped, narrowed her eyes, then looked up in astonishment.
Kayla squatted down, glaring at Lily, “Go. Go now. I need to talk to your friend.”
Lily threw Ruby a sideways glance. “You sure, Rue?”
“Sure,” Ruby agreed.
Kayla shooed Lily as she got up and walked across the room to help a fearful group of freshmen with raised hands.
“Excuse me, but who in the…” Ruby began.
“I heard that you were talking to my brother in history class earlier,” Kayla interrupted. Her eyes little artillery slits.
“Wait. What? I talk to him every day in class,” said Ruby, shifting herself out of the space Kayla had so rudely invaded.
“Stay away from him.” Kayla’s steely gaze almost unnerved Ruby. Almost.
“Whoa…look here…I don’t know what you’re talking about. We sit next to each other in class. I tutor him…we make casual conversation … it’s not like we go on dates,” Ruby cocked her head and raised an eyebrow.  “And if that were the case, it wouldn’t be any business of yours.”
“I said NO and that’s all you need to know,” Kayla said. Getting up, she smoothed her cheer-leading uniform skirt and patted Ruby on the head, “I’m sure you’ll see it my way.”
“Now just you wait a minute there, sister!” Ruby stood to her full height of five feet, six inches, squared her shoulders and pushed Kayla’s hand away.
“Look, Little Hood, things change. People change and believe me when I tell you it’s no longer in my brother’s best interest to hang out with you. He’s way too kind to say anything, so I will. That’s what sisters do.”
